Sparce snowpack puts California in 4th year of drought
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Barring a ‘March Miracle’, the water content of the Sierra Nevada snow pack will continue to shrink.

The third snow pack survey of the winter Tuesday found that the weekend storm was not enough to off-set weeks of no precipitation. Spring-like weather has produced more rain than snow.

The water content is historically low for early March. Only in 1991 was the water content of the snow pack lower.

California’s historically wettest winter months have already passed, and it’s now almost certain that California will be in drought throughout 2015 for the fourth consecutive year.

In normal years, the snow pack supplies about 30 percent of California’s water needs.
