Wildfire spares desert homes
PHELAN--Several homes were threatened by a 15-acre wildfire on Baldy Mesa Wednesday.

At least 15 fire trucks backed by a compliment of air tankers and helicopters descended on the mid-afternoon fire along Hollister Road and stopped the forward spread of the fire within 2-hours.

Spokesman Bill Peters at CAL FIRE says it’s an open area.

“The homes are spread out and there’s sparse vegetation between them which tends to slow the pace of the fire.”

Peters said most property owners in Phelan have created a defensible space around their homes which has enhanced the fire fighting efforts.
