Demands for police body cameras grows
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – County supervisors are urging Sheriff John McMahon to implement his pilot program to place body cameras on his deputies.

It comes as a full-scale investigation continues into the excessive-force arrest of an Apple Valley man that was caught on video tape by a news helicopter.

Supervisors Chairman James Ramos was hopeful that Sheriff McMahon brings a recommendation to the Board for consideration on a larger-scale police camera program as soon as possible.

In Sacramento, the Senate Public Safety Committee gave unanimous approval Tuesday to legislation requiring every law enforcement department or agency that chooses to require officers to wear body-worn cameras to develop a policy relating to the use of the cameras.

Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) said the bill would improve relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
