PALM DESERT-– (INT) – A 33-year-old man was arrested for elder abuse and assault charges, Thursday.

The victim in this case, a 65-year-old resident of Palm Desert, was assaulted and physically locked out of his Palm Desert residence earlier in the day by his 33-year-old son Matthew Diaz.

After several hours passed without receiving medical assistance or access to his residence a friend of the victim came to his aid and drove him to the Palm Desert Station.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

After ensuring the safety of the victim, officers checked a residence located in the 44000 block of San Benito Circle, in Palm Desert.

Officers located Matthew Diaz and attempted to arrest him; however, he refused to comply and a brief struggle ensued. Diaz was eventually overpowered by officers and arrested for elder abuse and resisting arrest.

Diaz was subsequently booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio.
