Casey Kasem visitation bill signed in Iowa
DES MOINES – (INT) – Iowa has become the first state in the nation to ensure visitation rights of adult children to see their ailing parents. The law follows the death of radio legend Casey Kasem.

His daughter, Kerri Kasem, lobbied for the bill after her father was moved from his nursing home in California, first to Nevada and then to Washington without his children's knowledge or consent.

Kerri Kasem began lobbying lawmakers in states across the country for legislation that would prevent similar instances.

"My brother, my sister, my uncle, and I had to fight for the right to see and communicate with our ailing Dad. We lost him too soon because we don't have the rights in California or the 48 other states that have yet to pass this bill,” she said.

Casey Kasem died at age 82 on Father's Day, June 15, 2014 from complications of Lewy Body Dementia.

Kerri Kasem founded the Kasem Cares Foundation.
