Twisted Colossus rolls again at Six Flags Magic Mountain
VALENCIA - Remember "National Lampoon's Vacation"? When the bumbling Griswold family sneaked into Wally World, they were really at Six Flags Magic Mountain, where the park scenes were shot. And when they rode the "Screaming Mimi" roller coaster, they were actually aboard Colossus, a beloved wooden coaster at the Southern California park.

Six Flags upset fans when it announced it would be closing down the past-its-prime ride at the end of last season. But they quickly got over their angst when the park reversed course.

Instead of bulldozing it, Six Flags said it would be giving the famous racing coaster a radical makeover.

Magic Mountain has unleashed Twisted Colossus, a hybrid wooden-steel ride.

It retains its wooden structure, but traded out its old track for one made of steel. Ride designers modified its layout to include more scream-worthy moments. (Source: USA Today)
