Motorcycle safety campaigns fail to stem fatalities
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Motorcycle mishaps took a deadly toll across the inland region during the Memorial Day weekend. And, yet another life was lost Tuesday.

Five people lost their lives in a series of accidents.

In the latest near Adelanto, a motorcyclist has been killed in a collision involving a wrong-way vehicle.

At Lake Elsinore, Layfette Coons lost control of his speeding motorcycle causing it to crash into a tree and a mailbox. Coons, 32, of San Jacinto died at the scene on Machado Street.

In Palm Springs, an accident under similar circumstances Monday killed another motorcyclist, Marcus Leone, age 21.

Calfire reported Monday the death of a motorcyclist at the Cahuilla Creek Motocross. Details of the mishap were not immediately available.

Earlier in Rancho Cucamonga, a motorcycle struck a parked vehicle fatally injuring Scott Arko, 25, of Colton.

Twenty-two people have been killed in motorcycle accidents since the beginning of the year across the Inland Empire.

In 2013, California’s motorcycle collisions resulted in 475 fatalities and 13,143 injured victims. In 2012, 467 people were killed.
