Beaumont City Manager volunteers leave of absence
BEAUMONT – (INT) – Fallout from the recent FBI raid on City Hall is beginning.

A June 21st City Council meeting has been scheduled to decide whether an interim city manager should be hired.

Long-time City Manager Al Kapanicas requested and was granted administrative leave so as not to impede an investigation of city budget discrepancies. He could face disciplinary action and possible dismissal.

On April 22nd, the FBI and the investigators from the county District Attorney’s office served search warrants at several locations including City Hall, Kapanicas’ home and the offices of a consultant that provided economic development services to the city for 20 years.

At the time, city officials advised they would ‘fully cooperate’ in the investigation and continue to update the public.
