‘Share the Road’ enforcement on SR-74
TEMECULA – (INT) - SR-74 (Ortega Highway) is a two lane corridor which directly links Riverside County and Orange County.

The mountainous state route is a scenic path utilized by the motoring public. During summer months, motorcycle traffic increases on SR-74. Excessive speed is the most common rider-related factor in motorcycle collisions.

On SR-74 from the Lake Elsinore city limit to the Orange County line there were 72 total collisions, including 28 motorcycle related traffic collisions in 2013, and 82 total collisions, including 32 motorcycle related traffic collisions in 2014.

Over the past year, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Temecula Area has been maximizing patrol resources along the Ortega Highway to reduce traffic collisions, which are caused by violations of the California Vehicle Code.

Utilizing grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, the CHP will continue to conduct enhanced enforcement and education efforts in this area.
