Unprepared hikers rescued, two die of heart attacks
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Search and rescue teams have been busy picking up hikers unprepared for the summer heat.

Two have lost their lives in recent days.

A 73 year old woman suffered a fatal heart attack while hiking with her family on the 49 Palms Oasis trail in Joshua Tree National Park. The Louisiana woman was dead by the time help arrived. Two other hikers with her were treated for heat exhaustion.

Last weekend, a hiker collapsed and died on the Devil’s Backbone Trail just below Mt. Baldy.

Palm Springs rescue teams are regularly responding to hikers trying to climb the surrounding mountains. Two more asked for help Tuesday night after running out of food and water.
