Groundwater cleanup years ahead of schedule
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – The Federal EPA is announcing significant progress in cleaning up polluted groundwater at the Newmark Superfund Site.

It expects groundwater will meet federal and state drinking water standards for PCE and TCE 18 years earlier than originally scheduled.

A 3D visualization analysis showed that contamination of the plumes were reduced from approximately 4500 lbs. to 799 lbs. between 2006-2012. Based on the analysis it was concluded that the interim groundwater treatment plant that contains, captures and reduces the plume was effective and efficient in meeting cleanup goals.

The Newmark site covers a portion of a groundwater aquifer used as a public water supply source for San Bernardino and surrounding cities.
