Waterman Canyon fire stopped in its tracks
SAN BERNARDINO - (INT) - A short-lived wildfire in Waterman Canyon caused some anxious moments Sunday.

The Arrowhead Fire covered only 15-acres at last report, but burned close to the backyard of one home west of the Arrowhead Springs resort.

Authorities said the area had ten homeless encampments. The California Highway Patrol was asked to help remove people from hiding. There were no reported injuries or damage to buildings.

Highway 18 was closed between East 40th Street and Highway 138 until 6pm when one lane in each direction was opened.

About 200 fire fighters responded to the scene. They were assisted by three water-dropping helicopters and two air tankers.

The fire was the second in a week in the San Bernardino National Forest that was stopped before getting out of hand. Another on August 23rd convered about 55 acres of timber near the Snow Summit resort at Big Bear. Causes of both fires are under investigation.
