Fire hits desert asphalt plant INDIO – (INT) – Damages are extensive in the wake of a fire Monday at the Skanska asphalt plant in Fargo Canyon north of here.
An oil drum initially caught fire. When the flames were contained 3-hours later, four buildings had been destroyed and four more damaged. Losses also included a 6,000 gallon tanker semi-truck, a pick-up truck carrying acetylene and oxygen tanks, a storage container for rubber pallets, and three containers of diesel fuel and heating oil. The chemicals were used in the production of asphalt for roads. Calfire estimated losses at $400,000. There were no injuries. Cause of the fire is under investigation. Story Date: October 1, 2015
