INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Average gasoline prices across the 2-county region have finally slipped below $3 a gallon.

Many gas stations have been advertising pump prices below that for several weeks, but the median price cracked that barrier Friday, according to the Auto Club’s Fuel Gauge Report.

Prices have been on a slide for seven consecutive weeks and are 66-cents below those of a year ago.

But, the decline may be leveling off. “The pace of the weekly price drops in Southern California has slowed to about a penny a day in most areas,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeff Spring.
