Seven injured freeway bridge workers remain hospitalized
CORONA – (INT) – Seven construction workers injured in Friday night’s collapse of some support beams beneath a bridge overpass remain hospitalized. Three were last reported in critical condition.

Nine were struck when the temporary wooden beams collapsed as a new bridge deck was being lowered into position.

An inspection has determined the bridge on East Grand Boulevard is secure and the street will be opened to traffic between Third and Joy streets early Monday, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

The new bridge deck is part of Project 91 which involves widening the 91 freeway through Corona. Work was stopped until Monday to allow for the on-scene investigation.

Names of the injured were not released.
