Incoming storms could be most potent in months
SOUTHLAND - The opening week of 2016 will be in marked contrast to the past 3-months. Back-to-back Pacific storms are getting organized to pounce on California.

Forecasters are getting a good handle on the timing and intensity of as many as four storms that will strike between late Sunday and Friday.

Two to 3-and-a-half-inches of rain is predicted from the coast through the inland valleys and twice that in the foothills and lower coastal slopes of the San Bernardino, San Gabriel and San Jacinto Mountains. There is the potential for flash flooding Tuesday and Wednesday.

Two feet of snow is likely in the mountains above 6,000 feet. Blowing snow could cause ‘whiteout’ conditions.

Along the coast, a combination of stormy conditions, winds, high surf and erosion on the beaches could result in local flooding in streets and parking lots.
