Manufacturing sector cools amid economic rebound
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – The recovering economy has hit a bump in the road.

The local manufacturing sector has suffered a slight set-back. The monthly Purchasing Manager’s Index has set a new trend suggesting that the region’s manufacturing sector is no longer growing.

However, Barbara Sirotnik of the Cal State-San Bernardino Institute of Applied Research said Monday there is an expansion of the overall economy. “The Inland Empire economy appears to be continuing its slow growth even as the manufacturing sector is experiencing weakness.”

The index of leading indicators showed decreases in production and new orders and employment.

Purchasing managers remain cautious in their projections about the state of the local economy for the coming quarter. Thirty-three percent predict it will become weaker while 43 percent feel it will remain the same.
