Purchasing managers offer a mixed bag for the region's economy
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Local purchasing managers are putting a positive spin on the region’s economy for the opening of 2016, but question its sustainability.

January’s PMI registered an impressive gain over December’s which was the lowest since 2009.

The Institute of Applied Research at Cal State San Bernardino found that increases in New Orders and the Production Index were especially noteworthy.

January’s Employment Index also rose and Supplier Deliveries are getting faster.

In spite of the January numbers, the purchasing managers who were surveyed were not impressed with overall outlook for the first quarter of the year. Only 11% believe the economy will improve while 41% said it will become weaker. Forty-eight percent said it would remain the same.
