Court's suspension of Clean Power Plan draws criticism
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Governor Brown has some harsh words for the US Supreme Court following its decision to suspend enforcement of the Clean Power Plan, which requires states to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions from power plants.

By halting enforcement while the court challenges proceed, Chief Justice John Roberts agreed with some states that the rule could force large changes in the nation’s utility grid long before the Obama administration’s CO2 limits kick in.

Governor Jerry Brown said “The justices appear tone-deaf as they fiddle with procedural niceties. This arbitrary roadblock does incalculable damage and undermines America’s climate leadership. But make no mistake, this won’t stop California from continuing to do its part under the Clean Power Plan.”

Attorney General Kamala Harris said “The Court’s decision, and the special interests working to undermine this plan, threatens our environment, public health and economy.”

Riverside Congressman Mark Takano said the Clean Power Plan “is a major piece of the president’s strategy to address the growing threat that climate change poses to our economy and security.”
