August sun looms large, heat wave begins
SOUTHLAND - (INT) - A ridge of high pressure has ignited a warming trend that won’t peak until Monday. A slow cool down will follow.

Cool Centers are re-opening their doors as a predicted 5-day heat wave makes an entrance.

Triple digit heat is boosting the wildfire danger. There’s an increased risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for the homeless, elderly, infants and those involved in outdoor activities.

The ridge has replaced a low pressure trough off the West Coast that had kept Southern California air conditioned most of the month.

There is a very small chance that an isolated thunderstorm or two could develop over the mountains followed by the possible return of some monsoon moisture by Wednesday.
