Infected rodents carry hantavirus RIVERSIDE – (INT) – County health officials confirm that the hantavirus remains a concern even though no humans have been infected in Riverside County.
Recent testing of two dozen rodents captured in San Timoteo Canyon showed that ten carried the virus. Hantavirus can be transmitted to human by inhaling tiny droplets contaminated with the virus from deer mouse droppings and urine. That can happen while cleaning mouse-infested areas in and around homes, especially in rural areas. The infected rodents were taken from the Norton Younglove Preserve near Beaumont.
