San Bernardino chalks up 25th homicide, police 'ambushed'
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – Suspects with guns in their vehicles have carried out the city’s 25th homicide of the year.

Gang member Vincent Gandara, 29, was slain Thursday night as he drove along North ‘F’ Street.

Witnesses reported seeing gunfire coming from a tan-colored vehicle. Gandara’s vehicle veered into the front yard of a residence at 10th and ‘F’ streets. He was mortally wounded and died later at a local hospital.

It was San Bernardino’s ninth homicide for the month of April.

Meantime, police are becoming potential targets of would-be killers.

Two officers estimate that 10 shots were fired at their patrol car disabling it Thursday night. The officers were unhurt in what they said was an ambush near the Terrace Motel on Foothill Boulevard. Officers returned fire wounding a 17-year-old boy. He and two others were arrested.

Earlier this week, Police Chef Jarrod Burguan urged citizens to establish a united front in combating violence in the city. Burguan told a town hall meeting that the community must take ownership and stand up against the violence.
