Police find drones useful at crime scenes
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – Police have deployed their first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at a crime scene investigation.

The drone was used Friday in the search for evidence and take digital photos near the Terrace Motel where an officer-involved shooting occurred the prior night.

Two officers came under fire as they approached several people loitering in an area known for gang activity. Uninjured, the officers returned fire wounding a 17-year-old boy. That youth and two other people were arrested.

At least two of the suspects fired handguns at the officers.

Photos snapped by the drone will be used in the prosecution of the three suspects.

Lt. Richard Lawhead said they are finding the UAV to be a useful investigative tool.
