California put on La Nina watch
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – Southern Californians have reason to be skeptical after the much-hyped El Nino failed to bring its rains to this region last winter. Now, long-range forecasters are predicting La Nina’s dry weather influence is coming.

Sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific are declining, a sure sign that El Nino is history. That could signal its impending counterpart.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) says there’s a 75 percent chance of La Nina conditions in the Northern Hemisphere this coming fall and winter.

That’s not encouraging for California where the drought is now in its fifth year.
