Proposition 1B funds emission cuts in goods movement DIAMOND BAR – (INT) – The Air Quality Management District is out with one of its biggest awards for clean air equipment, and the Inland Empire is a beneficiary.
Friday’s decision by the AQMD’s managing board is aimed at reducing diesel emissions at the Southland’s two seaports and along the goods movement corridor to the Inland Empire. In a statement, the AQMD said the funding will replace 11 long-haul locomotives and one switcher locomotive with engines that meet the lowest emissions certification or cleaner; 71 rail yard diesel trucks and forklifts with zero-emission battery electric models; and related charging infrastructure. In addition, funding was awarded for two emission capture-and-control systems to be barge-mounted and used to reduce emissions from ships while at berth in the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
