Firefighters closing in on Sand Fire
SANTA CLARITA - (INT) - Three-thousand firefighters continue making progress against the destructive Sand Fire.

There are containment lines around about 40 percent of the fire's perimeter.

The active part of the 38,346 acre wildfire is burning in the higher reaches of the Angeles National Forest east of here and away from homes. Eighteen homes were destroyed last weekend as erratic winds pushed the flames in multiple directions.

A man killed by the inferno, Robert Bresnick, 67, had been told to evacuate, but refused.

Most residents previously evacuated have been allowed to return. Residents only are allowed in the fire zone.
