Hillary urges unity against Donald Trump
PHILADELPHIA—Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will hit the campaign trail securing votes ahead of the November election.

Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday, presenting herself as a competent, ambitious leader standing in contrast with GOP nominee Donald Trump.

In a speech at the Democratic National Convention, Clinton urged Americans to unify behind her campaign, offering overtures both to independents and supporters of liberal primary rival Bernie Sanders. "I know that at a time when so much seems to be pulling us apart, it can be hard to imagine how we'll ever pull together again," Clinton said. "But I'm here to tell you tonight – progress is possible."

Clinton offered a list of policy proposals that she would push for as president, including taxing the superrich to pay for a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure spending plan and college tuition relief.

She also called for tougher gun-control laws in the wake of police-involved shootings of African Americans and shootings of police officers in retaliation.

"We will not build a wall," Clinton said, referencing Trump's plan to curb illegal immigration by erecting a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. "Instead, we will build an economy where everyone who wants a good paying job can get one."

Clinton enters the general election with Americans on both the left and right suspicious of her trustworthiness, in part because of a recent controversy involving her use of a private email server while U.S. secretary of state. During her speech at Wells Fargo Arena, isolated pockets of Sanders supporters booed and heckled her at times, though the discord was less than in the first couple days of the convention.

Clinton specifically asked for Sanders' supporters to vote for her. "I want you to know, I've heard you," she said. "Your cause is our cause."

So, the DNC closed Thursday night ending the political conventions that won't return for another 4-years.
