Two bicyclists killed, one murdered
LOMA LINDA – (INT) – A bicyclist struck and killed by a motorist fleeing from a police traffic stop has been identified.

The coroner says that Randolph Stephenson, 62, of Redlands was pedaling along Barton Road in the bicycle lane Friday when he was struck by a mini-van that failed to stop.

Stephenson could not be revived at the Loma Linda University Medical Center.

The motorist, a man from Rancho Cucamonga, later crashed the mini-van and fled on foot. Sheriff’s deputies eventually found him hiding and arrested him on suspicion of murder. They say the man was named in an arrest warrant for domestic violence.

In a separate incident, another bicyclist was killed the day before in Newberry Springs near Barstow. The 60-yerar-old victim had been riding along Valley Center Road.
