Summer's 7th, fatal officer-involved shooting INDIO – (INT) – An elderly knife-wielding man is the Inland Empire’s latest fatality resulting from an officer-involved shooting.
The identity of the dead man, Pedro Montanez, 71, of Indio was released Wednesday but circumstances of last weekend's incident are vague. Indio police say Montanez had been threatening citizens on Jackson Street before an officer showed up and a confrontation followed. Montanez was shot and died later at a local hospital. No one else was injured, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department which assumed the investigation. It was the Inland Empire’s seventh, fatal officer-involved shooting this summer.
