Trump-Clinton debate sets tone for two more
HEMPSTEAD, NY - (INT) - Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump exchanged opening shots that will close their contentious campaigns in the first of three presidential debates that may have drawn one of the largest television audiences in US history Monday.

The candidates entertained questions from moderator Lester Holt on six topics that ranged from the economy and jobs to race relations and securing the nation.

Mrs. Clinton denounced Trump for racial insensitivity, hiding potential conflicts of interest and “stiffing” those who helped build his business empire.

Both proclaimed the need for law and order, but Trump did not articulate a plan.

Trump called for tax cuts for businesses and creating 25 million jobs. Clinton deplored the nation's 'gun epidemic' contending it's the leading cause of death for young black men. Both said each had a plan to defeat ISIS.

While extolling his business savvy, Trump defended his style saying "I have much better judgment and temperament than she does". "She's got experience, but it's all bad", he said.

Mrs. Clinton remained off the campaign trail over the weekend explaining that she's 'preparing to be President.'

At the end of the 90+ minute debate, Trump answered Holt's question that if Clinton wins, he would support her.

The second debate is October 9th in St. Louis.

CNN said a poll it took showed that Clinton won the opening debate 62% to 27%. With six weeks until Election Day, and with voters in some states already starting to cast ballots, polls show Clinton’s summer lead has all but evaporated.
