Palm Springs memoralizes 'guardian' officers
PALM SPRINGS – (INT) – Law enforcement officers from throughout the country were among several thousand who attended Tuesday’s memorial for two police officers killed in an ambush ten days earlier.

Police Chief Brian Reyes praised officers Gil Vega and Lesley Zerebny as devoted ‘guardians’ of this city.

The incident has raised ‘red flags’ in ‘troubling times’ for law enforcement throughout the nation, Reyes said. And, he urged everyone to take control of their families and not ignore signs that could lead to violence.

In his emotional eulogy, Chief Reyes told the hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered at the Palm Springs Convention Center “May you be blessed in these most difficult times”.

Palm Springs City Hall and all city facilities were closed from 10am to 2pm. Riverside County Supervisors cancelled their weekly meeting in memory of the officers.

The public memorial service was streamed live on the city’s website.

Governor Brown and Attorney General Kamala Harris were among those attending.
