Health advisory posted for Riverside’s Lake Evans RIVERSIDE – (INT) – In what’s believed to be the first-ever interim health advisory for Lake Evans at Fairmount Park has been issued by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA).
It says that catfish in the lake contain elevated levels of PCBs, an industrial chemical found in the environment from spills, leaks or improper disposal. People are advised not to eat the fish. PCBs can build up in the body affecting the nervous system and can cause cancer and other health effects. For other species of fish found in Lake Evans, OEHHA recommends that individuals follow the advice offered in its advisory for eating fish from California’s lakes and reservoirs without site-specific advice.
