Suspect in ADA business fraud pleads guilty
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – A Menifee man is awaiting sentencing for falsely representing himself as an advocate for the disabled community.

Authorities say that Rodolfo DeHoyos, 56, would leave “notices of violation” at small business in and around Riverside alleging violation of ADA access laws. DeHoyos identified himself as the owner of “ADA Advocates and Consulting.”

DeHoyos followed up on the violation notices with e-mails, letters, phone calls, and even “in person” visits to the business. Victims said that DeHoyos demanded monetary “settlements” for their ADA violations or he would sue them in Court for ADA Civil Rights Violations. DeHoyos demanded settlements ranging from $500 up to $10,000.

DeHoyos collected over $140,000.00 in “settlements” from various businesses.

He will be sentenced February 3rd in Riverside Superior Court on 143 felony counts.
