Female pedestrian dies on local railroad tracks
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Investigators are looking into the circumstances of another pedestrian fatality on local railroad tracks.

A female was struck at the busy Tyler Avenue crossing at Indiana Avenue Friday.

The conductor and engineer of the BNSF freight train told firefighter paramedics they sounded the train’s horn warning the pedestrian, but to no avail. Both were shaken by the incident and said there was no chance to stop the train and avoid hitting her.

She was the 13th pedestrian killed this year on train tracks that criss-cross the Metro area and the ninth in the Riverside-Corona area.

Safety campaigns have focused on railroad crossings. But, several pedestrians are venturing onto railroad right-of-way where more incidents are happening.
