California ramps up goals to cut greenhouse gas emissions
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – California is setting the most ambitious goal in North America to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The State Air Resources Board (CARB) has released a released an initial draft plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030. It includes continuation of California's Cap-and-Trade program.

It includes cleaner, more fuel-efficient cars and zero emission vehicles, low-carbon fuels, renewable energy, waste diversion from landfills, water conservation and improvements to energy efficiency in homes and businesses.

An analysis shows how Cap-and-Trade provides more certainty that the state will meet the 2030 goals even if other measures fall short.

“We must plan, invest and transform," said CARB Chair Mary D. Nichols.

“This plan lays out a road map for California – and the rest of the world – to achieve climate goals that were inconceivable only a decade ago,” said Governor Jerry Brown.
