M6.5 earthquake rocks Northern California
FERNDALE – (INT) – An M6.5 undersea earthquake rocked a wide Northern California coastal area Thursday morning, but caused no reported damage.

The quake was pinpointed about 100 miles west of Ferndale, but resulted in no threat of a tsunami.

The powerful jolt was felt in nearby Eureka, into southwest Oregon and south in parts of the San Francisco Bay area.

The quake followed several precursor events in recent days at the same epicenter where the San Andreas Fault terminates. Two plates of the earth’s crust meet there as part of the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire.
