'Beauty and the Beast' lands one of the top 10 openings of all time
HOLLYWOOD - Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” scored with audiences, racking up a massive $170 million domestically to become the biggest March movie debut ever and the seventh-best opening in history. The fairy tale remake added an additional $180 million to its haul from international territories like China and the United Kingdom.

Disney has successfully updated a “tale as old as time” for a new generation of moviegoers.

'Beauty' set a number of new records, including the biggest start ever for a PG title both in North America and abroad. And it surpassed the $166 million domestic debut of last year's 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice' to land the top March opening of all time. Just as impressive, the family-friendly movie boasts the seventh-biggest domestic opening for any film.

Two male-fueled titles placed No. 2 and No. 3 this week, Kong: Skull Island and Logan, respectively.

Jordan Peele's sleeper hit Get Out placed No. 4. Lionsgate's faith-based The Shack rounded out the top five. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)
