Memorial planned for tragic high school accident survivor HEMET - (INT) - A mortuary spokesperson has confirmed that a memorial service will be held Sunday for Helen Richardson who was among several students injured when struck by a pickup truck outside Hemet High School nearly 5-years ago.
She struggled after coming out of a coma several days following the 2012 accident only to take her own life last weekend. Helen was a sophomore when she and eight other students were struck as the pickup careened through a red light on Stetson Avenue in May 2012. Initially, the California Highway Patrol said the vehicle's mechanical condition was not a factor. But 5-months later, it was determined the vehicle's brakes had malfunctioned and that the driver, Daniel Carrillo, was trying to stop. Carrillo had gotten his driver's license just 15-days earlier. He was given a citation for the vehicle's mechanical problem. Sunday's 5pm memorial service will be at the Valle Vista Assembly of God Church. Story Date: May 1, 2017
