Is California ready for a Prime Time Primary? SACRAMENTO - (INT) - The California State Senate overwhelmingly approved the Prime Time Primary bill Thursday.
It would shift the state’s presidential primary from near last to one of the first in the nation. SB 568 passed the Senate 32-6 with bipartisan support. It’s designed to give the nation’s largest state a louder voice in the presidential selection process. In 2008, California moved up its Presidential Primary to February resulting in the highest voter turnout since 1980. But, the election later reverted back to June. Story Date: May 28, 2017
