SAN BERNARDINO - (INT) - An afternoon memorial service was held Thursday for retired Cal State San Bernardino president Al Karnig.

An Instagram posted on social media said Karnig died May 4th at the age of 75.

About 800 attended he memorial in the campus arena.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the President Albert and Marilyn Karnig Scholarship Endowment at CSUSB are welcome.

Karnig retired in 2012 after 15-years as president.

"This is a devastating loss for the entire CSUSB family, the greater community as well as those who knew and worked alongside him," said CSUSB President Tomas Morales.

Karnig's passing comes 5-years after founding president Dr. John Pfau died at age 93.
