Key weather radar site getting upgrades
CORONA – (INT) – Upgrades in the Inland Empire’s key weather radar site should improve short-term forecasting.
The National Weather Service says a crew will install a new signal processor, which replaces obsolete technology, improves processing speed and data quality, provides added functionality, and supports IT security at its facility atop the Santa Ana Mountains above Corona.
Known as a service life extension, the upgrade will keep the radar operational into the 2030s. The changes will take four days and should be complete next week.
Besides the National Weather Service, the radar installation also serves United States Air Force and Federal Aviation Administration.
