Where rubber IS the road
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – More recycled tires are destined for local road repairs.

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery has approved $2.3 million in funding for 20 projects using recycled tires.

It involves rubberized pavement, which combines ground waste tire rubber with traditional paving materials to create a longer-lasting, quieter, and more cost-effective road surface.

California generates an estimated 45 million waste tires each year. Of those tires, 68 percent are diverted from California landfills toward beneficial reuse.

Local cities sharing in the grant funding include Jurupa Valley, Ontario and Riverside.
