Heat, winds help spread wildfires
INLAND EMPIRE - (INT) - Some of the warmest weather of the year helped to spread a series of wildfires Sunday.

The most troublesome shut down a section of the Route 210 freeway near the city limits of Highland, San Bernardino and Redlands. Flames jumped the freeway near Fifth Street, but were declared contained about 5-hours after they were reported east of San Bernardino Avenue.

North of Moreno Valley, Calfire brought out its air tankers to fight a 35-acre fire in Reche Canyon. The foreward spread of the fire was stopped in an hour-and-a-half.

In Norco, a man was seen setting a field on fire behind a bank on Hamner Avenue and Fourth Street.

Dry winds helped to fan Sunday's fires.

Afternoon temperatures in the Metro area hit triple digits for the first time this year on Sunday. Lake Elsinore and neighboring Wildomar recorded 100. Lake Elsinore's reading is recognized by the National Weather service.
