San Bernardino Strong survives City Hall closure
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – In a fitting move coupled with the city’s bankruptcy is the closing of the 45-year-old City Hall.

It sits vacant after two evaluations suggested the 8-story building might not survive an M6.0 earthquake.

Vacating the building on North ‘D’ Street has been underway for several weeks. The water department will be the last to leave by Friday.

There are no plans to retrofit the structure as estimates have exceeded $20 million.

City offices are relocating to four different buildings all in the immediate downtown area and will be leased an annual cost of $1.2 million.

Meantime, the city is about to emerge from bankruptcy with a plan awaiting final approval.
