Jobless rate tumbles to 11 year low
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – The region’s job growth is reflected in the latest unemployment estimates which are the lowest in 11-years.

The State Employment Department says April’s jobless rate of 4.7% marked the first month since December 2006 that it was below five percent. That nearly matches the California rate of 4.5% and the nationwide estimate of 4.1%.

Additionally, the EDD says the number of people looking for work in the Inland Empire during April slipped below 100,000 to 94,400.

Construction added 4,000 jobs during April across Riverside and San Bernardino counties. During the past 12-months, there were 43,300 new jobs for an annual growth rate of 3.1 percent.

Eight other sectors also recorded gains over the year, with the most significant coming from trade, transportation, and utilities, educational and health services, government and leisure and hospitality.
