Incidents of violence investigated in Paris and London
PARIS - A car deliberately hit a police van Monday before bursting into flames on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, police officials say.
The driver died in the incident.
Police found a Kalashnikov rifle, handguns and gas bottles in the car.
"Security forces have been targeted in France once again," Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said, calling it an "attempted attack". No law enforcement officers or civilian bystanders were hurt.
France is under a state of emergency after being hit by a wave of deadly terrorist attacks in recent years.
In London, the man arrested on suspicion of carrying out the Finsbury Park terror attack Sunday is 47-year-old Darren Osborne from Cardiff, the BBC understands. He was held after a van hit Muslims who had been attending evening prayers at a north London mosque.
The Muslims had been helping a man who had collapsed. He later died but it is not clear if it was because of the attack.
Osborne was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later further arrested over alleged terror offences.
Security Minister Ben Wallace said the suspect was not known to the security services, and was believed to have acted alone.
