SOUTHLAND – (INT) - Heat wave conditions have ganged up on firefighters trying to keep the lid on the worsening wildfire danger.

A new Fire Tuesday near Lake Silverwood in the San Bernardino Mountains was put down late Tuesday after covering 5-acres.

A fire Sunday claimed 153 acres of dry grass and brush in Reche Canyon north of Moreno Valley. One fire fighter was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Another fire blackened 23-acres north of Lake Elsinore.

Near Beaumont, an air and ground battle held another fire to just 10 acres.

Near Wrightwood, investigators are seeking the cause of last weekend's 11-acre fire that threatened up to 35 homes. All evacuations were lifted several hours later.

In Los Angeles County, fire crews are strengthening containment lines around what’s left of the 800-acre Lake Fire near Castiac.
