Coachella school trustee accused of lying
COACHELLA – (INT) – A Coachella Valley School Board member is in trouble over his election campaign last year.

The District Attorney’s office has filed four felony charges against Francisco Becerra. They include three counts of perjury and one count of false declaration of candidacy.

Prosecutors allege that Becerra submitted false documents to the County Registrar of Voters when he ran for a school board seat in Trustee Area 3 in 2016. When Becerra completed several forms at that time, each was signed which certified, under penalty of perjury, that the information provided was true and correct.

The DA did not detail the inaccuracies in making Wednesday’s announcement.

No date has been set for Becerra’s arraignment.

If Becerra is convicted as currently charged, he faces more than four years in prison.
