FlexAlert extended, rolling blackouts imposed near Big Bear
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Cal ISO is maintaining its Flexalert for Wednesday afternoon as the 6-day heat wave nears a climax.

It’s urging Californians to dial back on their electricity use between the hours of 2pm and 9pm. That’s when air conditioners are running at their peak.

Turn off unnecessary lights, set air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher and use major appliances before 2 p.m. and after 9 p.m.

Cal ISO predicts peak electric demand to exceed 47,000 megawatts each day in California ISO’s service territory, which serves roughly 80 percent of electricity customers.

Californians can avoid power outages with voluntary electricity conservation, Cal ISO says.

Rolling blackouts were imposed Tuesday in the Big Bear Valley because of the Holcomb Fire. The sheriff's department warned that electric service may not be fully restored until Thursday.

In Colton, a power outage Monday struck the former Cooley Ranch area. An advisory posted on the city's website said: "We are currently experiencing a power outage in the Mount Vernon, Cooley, and Washington areas. Crews are in the field investigating the cause. Please keep refrigerators and freezers closed as much as possible."
