Funding secured for Los Angeles River
LOS ANGELES – (INT) - $100 million has been approved for Proposition 1 funding for restoration of the 51-mile L.A. River, a priority for the Assembly in state budget negotiations.

The river has long been known as a “concrete ditch” featured in films like ‘Grease’.

The funds will help launch the Lower River revitalization efforts. It will be split between the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, which is tasked with Lower River restoration through the Lower L.A. River Revitalization Plan, and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, which focuses restoration efforts on the Upper River.

“Study after study has shown communities with green space and community parks have significantly reduced health risks, including lower rates of cancer, asthma and obesity,” Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon said.
